It’s just a house, right?

So last night, it go a lot more real. We posted our house up for sale, by owner, on Zillow. Immediately, it brought sad, nostalgic feelings because this is where we’ve raised our kids, hosted hundreds of guests, fed way too many mouths and had deep conversations about life with so many friends.

God allowed us to build this house 8 years ago after living in a tiny, sub-standard apartment for 5 years. We thought we would be here forever, retire here and pass it on to the kids. But we’ve decided to put it on the market and see what happens because:

  1. It would give us a good nest-egg of financial security for the future.

  2. It would keep us from being distracted on the field

  3. It would keep our monthly expenses much lower (no mortgage to pay)

We’ve debated trying to keep it to rent it out, although:

  1. What are they doing to my house?

  2. I don’t know that we could price it where local folks could afford the rent.

  3. Keep the equity building, keep paying till we own outright

  4. Give the kids a place to crash during college.

  5. A place to retire

So we’ve been a bit torn, we’ve prayed hard about it and we’re still seeking wise counsel.

What would you do?
