Nomad

Whenever I see a car top luggage carrier it reminds me of the Chevy Chase Vacation movies (the good ones). As our family grew we realized that we needed one for our vacation and started looking for one. Some friends of ours had one, never used it and generously gave it to us. And it’s been a blessing to have the extra space on vacation.
Now, it’s just not proper to keep the car top carrier on top of the car when you aren’t carrying anything extra. Like when you aren’t on vacation, unless of course you’re a nomad.
I’m always quick to take it off and store it, so that im not “the lazy guy” who “doesn’t have time to take it off.” I just don’t want to be confused as an out of towner here in the vacation land of the Adirondacks.
But after our most recent, annual post-summer vacation, I didn’t take it off. Joanna asked me to; I thought about it; I had time to; I have a place to put it, but I just left it on. Here’s why:
It’s a reminder to me.
A reminder that we will soon be nomads.
A reminder to us that we will soon be homeless.
A reminder to me that we will not be locals here for much longer.
A reminder to me that we will be traveling all over the country to see friends and family for support raising.
A reminder to me that God cares about our needs and meets them through the generosity of others.
A reminder to me to pray for the great transition that will be happening in our lives very shortly.
So if you see our car top carrier or if you see one anywhere, let it remind you about the Bodlien family nomads. And please pray for us during the transition.
