Most everyone seeks independence. We want to be able to make our own choices, live our own life, make our own mistakes, call the shots.

Pros:

  1. Self-Confidence

  2. Financial freedom

  3. Flexibility

  4. Convenience

  5. Resourcefulness

Cons:

  1. Asking for help

  2. Disconnection

  3. Loneliness

  4. Financial limitations

  5. Effectiveness

In my journey to become a morning person, I had become frustrated by not getting QT done, not praying, being tired, being cranky. Having young kids, they were getting up super early too, so I had to get up super earlier.

I knew something needed to change. I’ll post about how I became a morning person in a later blog. But once I had an edge on being a morning person, I realized all that finally made possible. QT, prayer, book reading, exercise, alone time, quietness:)

That has been putting me into a mindset where I’m ready to face the day, I feel more prepared, more equipped, more awake. The biggest addition of all has been my prayer time. It has lead me on a road of recovery, and rehab from my former independence. Because I’ve found that prayer abandons independence.

I’m not saying that you have to become a morning person to become a prayer person, but I am saying that if you aren’t a prayer person, than the process to becoming a prayer person will feel like the same process you go through when you’re breaking an old habit and staring a new one. It’s breaking a habit of independence and starting a habit of dependence on God, a habit of prayer, because prayer abandons independence.

When we don’t pray on a personal level we are living an Independent life, a life where we are getting by OK without a deep regular connection with our creator. Because while “prayer abandons independence” is true. The reverse can be true of us as well.  Independence abandons prayer.

“Prayer always forsakes the kingdom of self for the kingdom of God…” PD Tripp

If you don’t have a plan for your prayer life, then you are planning an independent day. By praying you are planning to not only defeat your greatest enemy but also cultivate your greatest relationship. Start today, and make today your Dependence Day!

Imagine your life, operating at full capacity because of a rich prayer life and read through the Lord’s Prayer with these thoughts in mind: Matthew 6
