Prayer, Part 2

In my prayer life, I’ve tried to pray for details and specifics, not just broad and general requests. My God listens and cares and I think He wants us to ask big and ask specifically. His answer may be different from the Ask, but it is a faith stretching exercise.
We’ve asked God for many specific things in regard to:
The timing and price of the sale of our home.
The rate of return on investment of our capital.
The timing and price of a provision for an RV, which many think we are crazy.
The time-frame to complete our support raising.
The type of storage unit and shipment of our stuff.
The people to replace me in Schroon Lake
The chemistry of our church praise band.
The date to leave for the Field
Now, these are just the categories where I have something or many things that we are praying for specifically. And God has already answered some of these in line with our Ask, but we also know that God can do whatever he wants and these are all ultimately up to him to answer.
But my point is that getting specific with the Ask stretches and builds your prayer muscles. The more you see God answer in line with your Asks, the more specific you’ll get with other things. It drives you to deeper conversation with your God, a deeper relationship that we should desire to have.
Where do these specifics come from? Maybe it’s just a hunch or gut feeling. Maybe it’s the Holy Spirit planting the thought in my head. Maybe it’s a dream I had after that pizza I ate last night 🙂 Maybe it’s a combination of all of that.
But I just dare you to start getting more specific. Stretch those muscles and experience the blessing of God’s provision.
Read 1 John 5:14-15
Sometimes I review my prayer list just to see what’s too broad and where I can get more specific. Try starting there.
If you don’t have a prayer list…try starting there first.
