"What is this place??"
"What do you do here?"
This is a common question that visitors/vendors ask when they come on to our camp property for the first time. It's a beautiful place full of buildings/cabins/gym/dining hall and green grass with well-kept soccer courts. It's very nice, a little out of place for Santiago:)
Our community (Puente Alto) came out of full quarantine just about a month ago, and right away we started a few different construction projects. One of which was a new roof structure for our pool's bathhouse.
In Chilean home construction, there is a cool tradition that the homeowner throws a party/cookout for the builders as soon as the roof rafters are in place. They perch a Chilean
flag from the highest point and have a cookout to celebrate the progress on the new home. This is called "los Tijerales"
We have not had any of our normal evangelistic events or camps on the property for the reason of the pandemic, but I thought this might be a good opportunity to show the builders what this place is, who we are and what exactly happens at this place.
We put together a cookout, hoisted up the flag, and celebrated the progress on the building. I ask our field director Marco to share his testimony about how his life was changed at this camp as well as the lives of countless others who have come from all around Chile and heard the life-changing message of the Gospel in this place. We always share the Gospel at our events, so the first time, in Spanish, I preached a Gospel message with a live audience (5 workers).
It was such a privilege to share the Gospel and by doing so, demonstrate who we are, and what we do. Please pray for these workers as the seeds of the Gospel were planted and we as we prepare for the next "tijerales" with another crew on a different project. Pray that we can continue to find creative ways to share the Gospel in our new world.
