The Hobbyist

I’ve never been much of a hobbyist. I’m not much for fishing, hunting, model cars or RC planes. I don’t like watching or playing sports, and as I start to think through it, I sound as active as a bump on a log… It doesn’t bother me because I like to think that it provides me more time to focus on my wife and daughters that need quality time from me.
At least I’m not spending a bunch of non-existent money on these non-existent hobbies.
Of course, I do have things that I am interested in, but If I had to say what my favorite hobby is it would be doing ‘handy man’ stuff. I like to work on my house (former house) and help friends work on their houses. While I don’t have my own house to work on anymore, God has given me fulfillment in this area in two ways.
The RV- I can’t do much mechanically with fixing vehicles, but the ‘house’ portion of the RV is about 20 years old and has needed some TLC. And honestly I have really enjoyed working on it.
Friends Houses- It seems like wherever we go, we’ve had friends who are in the midst of remodeling or house issues that I’ve been able to help them with.
Before we left, I made sure to pack some essential tools that I would need for the RV and they have all come in handy on these other projects too.
It’s neat how God has given me just enough to keep my hobby alive even here on the road.
